好用的mate
在澳大利亚，人们常称朋友为mates 。mate也经常被用作一种表示友好的称呼，比如：
How are you, mate?
你好啊伙计！
mate作为后缀，还可以在前面加很多词来表述日常交往中的一些人。
workmate（工友）指同事或一起工作的人。
housemate（室友）指与你住在一起的人（不一定是同一个房间）。
（编者注：roommate与housemate不同，roommate往往特指住在同一间房间的人，比如大学宿舍的舍友。）
Coincidentally, my workmate is also my housemate. We didn't realise we worked for the same company when I moved in.
太巧了，我的室友居然也是我的同事。刚搬进去的时候，我俩还不知道竟然在同一家公司上班。
classmate（同学）是指一起上学的人。
soulmate（灵魂伴侣）是指各个方面都与你心灵相通的人，通常指夫妻或生活伴侣。

交朋友（Making Friends）
下面是一些关于友谊的常见表述。
A friend in need is a friend indeed（患难见真交），意思是在你需要帮助时伸出援手的朋友才是真朋友。
Even though my best friend and I are not in the same country anymore, she's always there when I need her. A friend in need is a friend indeed.
虽然我和我最好的朋友不在同一个国家，但每当我需要她时，她总会陪着我。真是患难见真情啊。
拥有friends in high places是件好事。friends in high places（有势力的朋友）是指那些手握权力并愿意用这种权力来帮助朋友的人。
