PS2版封面游戏成功地塑造了几位新主人公，梦想成为英雄却喜欢睡懒觉的少年凯伊路，从巨大透镜中出现的神秘少女莉亚拉，搞笑的好大哥罗尼，疯狂的红髮科学家哈洛路特，悼念弟弟的娜娜莉……但游戏最成功的莫过于影子主人公裘达斯，在宿命传说1中没有交代的一些背景故事，裘达斯的内心世界与人格，在2代成为最吸引人的看点之一 。游戏系统信任及战略线性动作战斗系统（TT-LMBS）除了系列所惯用的TP系统外，还加入“精神点（SP）” 。普通攻击以及技巧上会消耗SP跟一定TP，当SP消耗光时就连普通攻击都无法进行，所以玩家变成不能光顾着攻击，适当的停手可以让SP数值恢复，这代中跟队伍同伴的连携方式，将会深深的影响玩家战斗上的表现 。因此SP成了该作品中作战中的主轴，也控制着玩家的战斗节奏 。
